Let’s talk about something every successful real estate agent needs: a Big Why. It’s not just a motivational buzzword—it’s the fuel that gets you out of bed, keeps you focused, and pushes you to achieve your dreams. And one of my favorite tools for discovering (or rediscovering) your Big Why is creating a dream board.

Dream Boards: More Than Just Glue and Magazines

A dream board isn’t just an arts-and-crafts project; it’s a visual roadmap for your goals, aspirations, and yes, even your wildest dreams. It’s a constant reminder of why you’re doing what you do.

When I created my first dream board back in 2010, I had no idea how much it would change my life. It gave me clarity, courage, and the nudge I needed to sell my business and start a new chapter as a Team Leader at Keller Williams Conroe.

Fast forward to 2015, when Dream Board 2.0 rolled out. That one? It gave me the inspiration to move on to another exciting chapter of my life.

How to Make Your Dream Board

1️⃣ Write It Down: Start with a list of your goals, desires, and anything you want to accomplish, become, or experience.
2️⃣ Gather Inspiration: Raid your magazines or print pictures from the internet that resonate with your goals.
3️⃣ Cut and Paste: Arrange those images and words on a poster board in a way that inspires you.
4️⃣ Display It: Hang your dream board somewhere you’ll see it often—your office, your bedroom, or even on your fridge.

Why It Works: The Law of Attraction

John Assaraf, from The Secret, has a mind-blowing story about his dream board. He cut out a picture of his dream home without knowing its location or price, and years later, he realized he had unknowingly bought and renovated that exact house.

Coincidence? Maybe. But the lesson is clear: when you focus on your goals, you subconsciously take actions that bring them to life.

What Happens When You Achieve Your Big Why?

Here’s the thing about Big Whys: they’re like parties. Once the confetti settles, you’re left asking, “What’s next?”

  • If your Big Why is ongoing—like supporting a charity or growing a legacy—it can sustain you indefinitely.

  • But if it’s a tangible goal, like buying a dream home, you’ll need to find a new Big Why to keep your fire burning.

When we finally bought our dream house with a pool (after 10 years of dreaming), it felt amazing—for about a week. Then came the What now? phase. Without a new Big Why, the motivation to hustle wasn’t as strong.

Avoiding the Post-Goal Slump

It’s natural to relax after hitting a major milestone, but here’s the trick: don’t stay there. Use that moment to reflect, regroup, and set your sights on something new.
