Dreamboards & Discovering Your Big Why

Image
What Inspires you?  What gets you out of bed in the morning?   Dream Boards, Big Whys, and Keeping the Spark Alive: Your Guide to Building a Thriving Real Estate Career Let’s talk about something every successful real estate agent needs: a Big Why. It’s not just a motivational buzzword—it’s the fuel that gets you out of bed, keeps you focused, and pushes you to achieve your dreams. And one of my favorite tools for discovering (or rediscovering) your Big Why is creating a dream board. Dream Boards: More Than Just Glue and Magazines A dream board isn’t just an arts-and-crafts project; it’s a visual roadmap for your goals, aspirations, and yes, even your wildest dreams. It’s a constant reminder of why you’re doing what you do. When I created my first dream board back in 2010, I had no idea how much it would change my life. It gave me clarity, courage, and the nudge I needed to sell my business and start a new chapter as a Team Leader at Keller Williams Conroe. Fast forward...

The Unseen Gift of Today

Image
In real estate, we often measure time in transactions—listing appointments, closings, contract deadlines. But outside of our calendars and CRM reminders, life is moving forward in ways we can’t predict. Today is someone's first day in the business, filled with excitement and possibility. For someone else, it's their last, walking away from a career that shaped them. Somewhere, a couple is celebrating an engagement, while another family is saying goodbye to a loved one for the last time. Today, a doctor delivered life-changing news—one person learned they have cancer, while another found out they’re expecting twins. Too often, we focus on what we lack—more closings, more leads, more success—rather than recognizing what we already have. The truth is, today is a gift, and tomorrow is never promised. A few years ago, my ex-wife and I took a cruise with friends. We laughed, made memories, and enjoyed the moment. Today, neither of them are here. Their time ran out, and they had no id...

You've Heard it Before - "It's Not a Sprint, It's a Marathon"

Allyssa’s First Marathon "From Half-Hearted Runs to Full-Marathon Memories: A Father-Daughter Story" It was the fall of 2017, and my youngest daughter, Allyssa, a junior in high school, threw down a challenge that would change both of our lives. At the time, our relationship was, well, let’s call it “challenging.” But she noticed the changes I was trying to make in my life—like losing over 50 pounds—and decided to push me a little further. She handed me a 90-day half-marathon training plan and said, “Dad, let’s do this together.” What she really meant, of course, was, “Here’s the plan; good luck!” But I wasn’t about to back down. Training "Together" Now, when Allyssa said we’d train together , she apparently meant: “I’ll start the run with you, then I’ll see you at the finish line.” “Here’s your copy of the training schedule—good luck sticking to it!” And honestly, I was fine with that. At that point, I hadn’t exercised at all, so just getting off the couch was a...

Obsession & Perseverence Can Be Your Ticket to a Gold Mine in Real Estate

0-300 in Less Than a Year From CD Collections to the Boston Marathon: A Story of Obsession, Perseverance, and Real Estate Success I got my first CD player during my freshman year of college, and by the end of that year, I had over 300 CDs. That’s almost one CD a day! In hindsight, I probably invested in the wrong kind of CDs. (Was it a joke? Maybe. Was it true? Definitely.) Back then, CDs weren’t cheap—they were $15 a pop, and minimum wage was less than $4 an hour. So, how did I pull it off? Two words: Columbia House (or BMG, for those in the know). You remember the deal: 12 CDs for a penny, with the catch that you’d get auto-shipped a CD every month unless you canceled. I took it a step further. Living in the dorms at Texas A&M, I convinced my dormmates to sign up for the penny deal, promising to cover their full-price CD. To this day, I hope I made good on all those $15 promises. If not, dormmates of the ’80s, let me know—I’ll send you your $15 + interest. 😉 Obsession...
