How The Simpson's TV Show Helped Me Earn Thousands!

Raving Fans!  Austin & The Simpsons

A few years back, I went on a listing appointment for a friend from Sunday school, Austin, who was a local radio personality. Austin seemed like your average guy in his 50s—married, grown kids, and a steady career. That was, until I stepped inside his house and discovered his passion for all things The Simpsons.

Seriously, his home was like a shrine to Springfield. Picture a dorm room, but instead of a college student, it belonged to a full-grown man who had fully embraced his love for Bart, Homer, and the gang. It was unexpected, to say the least.

I didn’t think much of it at first. Then, a few months later, I found myself at Target, rushing through that seasonal dollar section. And there it was: a goldmine of Simpsons-themed napkins and paper plates. Naturally, I grabbed a few items, stuck them in a manilla envelope, and mailed them off to Austin.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much. But the next time I saw him? You’d think I’d given him a signed contract for the entire Springfield Power Plant. He was thrilled—so much so that he started sending me referrals left and right.

All for less than $20.

That moment changed everything for me. It wasn’t about the money; it was about noticing what mattered to someone and taking action on it. It reminded me of something John Maxwell says:
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Before that, I used to grab a $50 Outback gift card as a closing gift. No thought, no personalization—just what was easiest for me. (Which, looking back, was wild considering I had no clue if my clients even ate steak! What if they were vegetarians?!)

After my Simpsons epiphany, I revamped how I approached client relationships. I created a VIP Client Sheet to include in my listing packets, asking about their favorite restaurants, hobbies, and interests. Closing gifts became thoughtful, tailored to their preferences, and meaningful.

That small shift changed how my clients saw me, built deeper connections, and turned my clients into raving fans who referred me time and time again.

Want to see my VIP Client Sheet? I’d love to share it with you—just send me an email kwecTL209@gmail.com, and I’ll send it over.

Here’s to noticing the little things, building better relationships, and maybe even surprising someone with a little Simpsons-themed joy along the way.
